Our Curriculum Drivers
'Ex Factor' Curriculum
These drivers form the foundation of our ‘Ex factor’ curriculum:
Excite – Children are inspired and enthusiastic to learn through engaging sequences of lessons, each of which builds on prior knowledge. Our curriculum promotes high aspirations, and motivates pupils to work hard.
Experience - High quality experiential opportunities – prioritising our local context and area where possible - that develop children’s cultural capital and further build and embed their schemas, allowing the children to develop as independent thinkers and learners. Children become increasingly aware of opportunities in their community and beyond.
Expertise – Staff relentlessly focus on teaching the basic skills such as phonics, reading, oracy and mathematics, ensuring children become ‘experts’ in these areas and have the foundation skills needed.
Extend – Ensuring that knowledge enters children’s long-term memory in order to make learning ‘stick’. Core knowledge is taught in all curriculum areas, and opportunities to interleave and revisit this knowledge are built into the curriculum in order to secure and build upon prior knowledge, as well as extending learning.
Excel – Concepts build and become more complex as we go through our curriculum, ensuring that children are constantly building, embedding and using their mental models. Children understand what is needed and produce high quality pieces of work in order to feel successful and proud and achieve to their full potential.
