Suspensions and Permanent Exclusions
At Watling Meadows Primary School, we are committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment where all pupils can learn and thrive. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to suspend a pupil or, in exceptional circumstances, permanently exclude a pupil. Any decision to suspend or permanently exclude will be made in line with statutory guidance and the school's Behaviour Policy.
The school follows all statutory guidance issued by the Department for Education regarding suspensions and permanent exclusions. Suspension and permanent exclusion from maintained schools, academies and pupil referral units in England, including pupil movement. We work closely with families and external agencies to support pupils and seek positive outcomes wherever possible.
Parents/carers will be informed in writing of the reasons for any suspension or permanent exclusion and will be advised of their rights to make representations to the Governing Board.
Where a Governing Board upholds a decision to permanently exclude a pupil, parents/carers may request that the decision is reviewed by an Independent Review Panel (IRP). Information about how to request an Independent Review Panel, including relevant timescales, will be provided at the time of the exclusion decision.
Further information can be found in the school's Behaviour Policy, or by contacting the school office.
Home-School Partnership Expectations
At Watling Meadows Primary School, we believe that children achieve their best when home and school work together in a spirit of mutual respect, trust and open communication.
We ask all members of our school community to treat one another with kindness and courtesy, support our school values, and work collaboratively to resolve any concerns. If a parent or carer has a question, worry or complaint, we kindly ask that they contact the school directly so that we can listen, investigate and seek a solution. In most cases, concerns can be resolved quickly through open and constructive discussion.
We are committed to working in partnership with families and value the opportunity to address concerns promptly, fairly and professionally.
